Health Care

From pediatrics and geriatrics, Lancaster and the Greater Buffalo Metropolitan area provide superior healthcare services for all.  The area boasts a wide array of services for staying healthy as well as quick-response capability for sickness and accidents.

There are two large health systems in Erie County:

Kaleida Health is the largest health care provider in Western New York, operating five hospital sites, including Buffalo General Medical Center, DeGraff Memorial Hospital, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, and Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.  Kaleida Health also provides important services through its long-term care facilities, behavioral health programs and the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York.

Catholic Health System operates four hospital sites:  Kenmore Mercy, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Sisters of Charity Hospital, and Sisters of Charity Hospital – St. Joseph’s campus.  Catholic Health’s services also include 14 primary care centers, six diagnostic and treatment centers, a freestanding surgery center, six long-term care facilities, two adult homes, three home care agencies, and several community ministries.

There are also three freestanding hospitals in the county:

The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC) is a consortium of the region’s premier health care, life sciences research, and medical education institutions, all co-located on 120 acres (0.49 km2) in downtown Buffalo.

There are two federally qualified health centers in Erie County: the Community Health Center of Buffalo and the Northwest Community Health Care Center. Both centers are located within the City of Buffalo and provide a wide range of services.

The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care offers medical care, emotional and spiritual support for people with serious illness and their families.

The VA Western New York Healthcare System provides comprehensive health care to eligible veterans.
